COMPETITION FOR THE UTEC UNIVERSITY CAMPUS. LIMA PERU
A dry, solid building, pointing to the sea and facing the park, as high as they allow it, it will be the first phase of a new university in Peru.
The following two, smaller, as if the first one had overturned, give a background to its figure and, setting back, free an underground access.
A place for all 3 phases, a place to meet. The hard paving and dimensions allowed events, announcements of activities. In front, eccentric, a covered porch frames views of the park.
The architecture of this university is born from what it needs. The duality classroom stagged auditorium style versus seminar is our project. To strictly enforce the program, in the parts ordered and its size, natural light infiltrates by the gaps. Cross ventilation, surprising views in the classrooms, all possibilities open (duplicating a classroom, face classrooms and seminars, high seminars).
And the rest of the program is in the ground floors, more public (not the individual faculty offices which are located in a privileged last floor). The university shows their classrooms and prides of them, no need to invent a language. The proposed architecture has to be equally present in a hundred years.
From there, the best classroom project (and the best laboratories) from the acoustic point of view, technical, within the same visibility, natural lighting and dimming, sun protection to north. Resolving the apparent stacking in a structure that includes seismic, well studied calculations.
Everything came easily. Canteens of 1st and 2nd phase in continuity and sharing kitchens and the discharge of goods. Student service offices, HR, administration in the street level, as it has to be. Libraries in the basement with reading wooded courtyards. Assembly hall with possible separate entrance from the square.
It is difficult to conceive a more optimized garage. Occupying only the lower part of the built area, its slightly sloping slabs suppress space and ramps without going under the water table, has its accesses, its different phases, clear and sensible.
The exterior spaces respond to the high density ordered from architecture. Reading wooded courtyards, meeting point squares, covered outdoor spaces, landscaped open space, for using and walking.
